CCAS - Collision warning -> iPad connection drop

I use the CCAS app on iOS and iPadOS — when the cellular connection was interrupted during flight, traffic is not displayed in the Moving Map even after the connection is restored. Although the CCAS app itself shows the data again.
I tested the same case on Android — the problem does not occur there.

Settings on the iPad:

  • Location - Access: Always
  • Local Network: Discovery allowed
  • Cellular Data: allowed
  • Background App Refresh: The app is not listed there (however I always keep it active in the foreground in split-screen and still, after the cellular connection is restored, traffic is shown only in the CCAS app and no longer in the Moving Map)

Could this possibly be a fundamental problem with iOS and iPadOS (since the problem does not occur on Android), or does anyone have any ideas what else I could change?

I must confess, I use SkyDemon as my moving map, not VFR Nav — but unfortunately I couldn’t find a dedicated forum for CCAS.

Hi Bernd,

…Well, since CCAS automatically re-displays the traffic during mobile data dropouts, it won’t be due to CCAS. In VFRnav there is the option to view the incoming traffic data ( e.g. from the Stratux or CCAS).

→ Is there such an option in the SD as well?

Hi Karsten,

thanks for your reply!

I couldn’t find that feature in SkyDemon and first contacted SkyDemon support. They referred me to CCAS support.

(Because with SafeSky I don’t have this problem with SkyDemon and both programs deliver the traffic data to SkyDemon via the GDL90 interface).
