In Switzerland there is currently an ADS-B ground station in test operation with a UAT data service (e.g. weather radar), comparable to the 978MHz UAT systems in the USA. Question: How do you integrate the UAT data (weather radar), in this case provided by skyecho, into the VFRnav map display?
This is a really great project and one can only hope that it spreads more widely. In the case of a technical implementation you will need a 3rd SDR (for example in the Stratux) that listens on 978. Then the Stratux must also provide these data via an interface. Then target systems (like VFRnav) can process this information and display it in an appropriate form.
At present, to my knowledge, the described data flow is “not yet” available in Germany. So far I only know the test project you mentioned. Let’s see what the expert says?
But one thing you can be sure of: as soon as it becomes technically available in Germany, it will be available in VFRnav immediately.
welcome to the forum and many thanks for your post!
At present, VFRnav processes only traffic data. Further information on UAT (Universal Access Transceiver) — in particular the weather you mentioned — is already on our radar. Due to the novelty of the topic, it is still difficult to test at the moment.
As soon as we have more detailed findings and, above all, suitable sample data, we will implement support for this in VFRnav.
