Hello everybody,
I am a very happy User of “VFRnav” and have it just recently connected with my Stratux. That works very well, but by using it I was missing some accustical Traffic Alerts like I know from other systems. I already use the accustical Air Space warning with my Bluetooth Headset and an additional Traffic Alert over the headset would fulfill the perfect experience.
Do you already work on this or is this a feature you might think about?
Greetings and thanks for your absolutely great work
thank you very much for your suggestion — I really appreciate it!
The acoustic airspace warning was actually the first step in implementing alert functions. Acoustic traffic alerts are definitely a major and important item on our to-do list. First tests are already ongoing.
I expect this feature to be included in version 4.14, and I would be very grateful if it could then be thoroughly tested and discussed.
…acoustic traffic warning works fine for me in vfrnav:slightly_smiling_face: due to i don’t have a BT Headset , i use an audio cable from my Handy/ Tablett to the intercom. …this works also very fine for me!
I went for a short flight yesterday in nice weather, as did some others. Two came suspiciously close to me. Unfortunately I couldn’t hear any audible warning. Do I need to enable that feature somewhere, as well as the airspace warning?
I need to ask again. Does the traffic warning work in the app? And if so, how does it work and what does it react to? I was out today — I heard the airspace warning loud and clear, but I didn’t hear anything about traffic…
Yes, the alarm works, and watch out for the Bluetooth possibly going into sleep mode when there’s no transmission for a while — I’m not sure whether that’s the case or not.
The traffic data have to come from somewhere for VFRnav to display them, and you’ll need a receiver for that. It can be CCAS, but also, for example, Stratux or Safesky.
I’m standing at the airplane right now to try this again. Everything’s activated, Stratux is receiving signals. I switch on the FLARM from the plane next to me… no warning to be heard. Somehow it’s not working for me.
which protocol are your Stratux and VFRnav connected with?
The audible warning is currently active only in the NMEA protocol (TCP). GDL90 (UDP) is coming in the next update.
I admit that this not-unimportant information hasn’t been documented until now . Sorry about that.
the “decision” whether an audible warning is issued or not comes from the device/system that collects the traffic data (e.g. the Flarm, the AT-01, CCAS, etc.). This is defined and strongly recommended in the protocol specifications. In my opinion that also makes sense, since this is precisely the competence of the traffic source (or at least should be).
However, it will be obvious that this also results in a certain inflexibility and I fear that not every alert will always be appropriate. Nevertheless, I would first wait for your feedback and practical experience before implementing corresponding adjustments to the alerting in VFRnav. The only thing that will be implemented right away is disabling the alert on the ground, as suggested by Stefan.
I tried a bit more. When I set split screen on my tablet, with the Stratux interface (Stratuxoberfläche) on top and VFRnav at the bottom, I also get the message. Then it doesn’t matter whether TCP or UDP is enabled. If I only have VFRnav running, no message appears
I’m currently fighting my echo, even though I set my callsigns and my hexadecimal identifier. The echo appears when I exit CCAS and reload it a few seconds later. If I wait longer before reloading it then I don’t get the echo of my own device. I think the echo is linked to the specific identifier assigned by CCAS, and not to the identifiers in the user settings.
Regarding my Bluetooth cutting out, I think it’s actually my headset turning off Bluetooth when I’m stopped at a waypoint and I close CCAS or VFRnav. So that’s normal.
Regarding detection distances this point needs to be clarified. Was it really intentional on your part to remove the distance setting in VFRnav?
When you have the time it would be good it would be good to specify how the distance is calculated.
@Sven if I understand correctly, you would have both alarms.
Your first split screen in smartphone mode(?) displays a message (and not the radar) your second screen in tablet mode displays the radar (you can clearly see the two devices on top of each other!)
So graphically it looks OK?
For the sound I don’t know, because it’s not in the images
Indeed we’re lacking information about how it works
