I do have many approach charts already georeferenced and I would like to import them.
Some I have produced myself in QGIS, some are exported from AIPBrowser.
I know for a fact that they do work, since I use them regularily elswhere.
Now, when I import these into VFRNav, it only says “0 files imported”.
Using your own georeferencer does work, but of course creates a lot of work that I had already done before.
Is there a way to get GeoPDFs or GeoTIFFs imported?
What are the required specs to make my files usable?
The easiest way would be to send us one of the files by email to mail@flugbetrieb.com. We’ll be happy to take a look and check how it can be integrated directly into VFRnav.
when I was preparing a package to send to you, I have noticed that the AIPBrowser already supports exporting charts for VFRNav. Great!
From the resulting files I saw how you do it - with the box coordinates in the file name.
I can do that, so I have a workable solution for my own charts.
I have also observed that all charts that are imported are always drawn onto the map.
When I imported >500 charts, the app would not handle that well and crash on boot.
The only way to get it back up was to delete the app and thereafter reinstall. Of course, all settings and other data was erased by doing so.
So then I tried fewer charts. When I then removed a chart from the map, I expected it to simply disappear until I select it again.
However, removing it from the map also deleted the downloaded chart. Bringing the same chart back again required reimporting it.
I believe it would be a favorable solution to keep the charts in storage and to be able to re select it whenever I deem it necessary.
The local/downloaded charts could be added to the list of charts that are available via the in-app DFS AIP Browser in the airfield details view.
Otherwise, I would have to load the required charts into the app before each flight and would have to keep them visible on the map the entire time.
Plus Alternates.
If the visible chart could be selected, it would also be easy to display taxi charts.
