if I move away from the airfield I took off from without entering a destination, is there a permanent visual connection line, kind of like a rubber band, that always shows me the route back to the airfield?

Maybe you could describe your thoughts on the question a bit more so the meaning becomes clearer?
Suggestion: …just tap on your departure airfield → select Direct to. …done.
Maybe that’s already what you mean?

You actually understood the point behind my question and immediately gave me the completely correct solution — many thanks for that.
Mark the airfield with “direct to”, and a dashed line to the airfield will then always be displayed. Sometimes it can be that simple :).
