Using Garmin GLO2 with Android and VFRnav

I’ve been using the Garmin GLO2 for a few weeks and have to say it works great with VFRnav.

Here’s a small guide to set it up on Android devices.

Folgendes müsst ihr unter Android beachte:

  • Install the GNSS Master app from the Play Store (to override the built-in GPS signal)
  • Enable Developer options in the Android settings (tap the build number 7 times)
  • Select the app for mock locations and set GNSS Master there

In VFRnav muss folgende Einstellung vorgenommen werden (Menü: Externen Datenquelle):

  • Protocol: TCP
  • Port: 2000
  • IP address: automatic

Einstellungen in der GNSS Master app (Menü: Data Output):

  • Mode: TCP Server
  • Port: 2000

Now just start and connect the GNSS Master app and you can use an external GPS receiver for VFRnav. :+1:

Hello Jan,

great guide :ok_hand: Thank you very much!

The Glo was also recommended to me… Especially on some high-wing aircraft the connection is said to be significantly more stable than the built-in GPS receivers

Hello, the GLO2 is a very good GPS transmitter and works flawlessly.

In another blog post it is also described how to connect the device directly in the app via VFRnav.

Under Settings (External Data Sources), Source: Bluetooth and under Device select the Garmin GLO2.

Unfortunately I don’t yet know whether CCAS will then also receive the location data from the GLO2.

Hello Jan,

CCAS currently still cannot process external data. This will be added in the upcoming update.

As soon as this is implemented, CCAS will also forward the external position data. Meaning: If CCAS is connected to a Bluetooth receiver and VFRnav is likewise connected to CCAS, VFRnav will also use the receiver’s data (e.g., Garmin GLO2).

Hello Hermann, thanks for your reply.

If I understand correctly, then CCAS has to be paired with the Bluetooth receiver and not VFRnav (External data sources)?

Wouldn’t it perhaps be advantageous to implement CCAS in VFRnav, so you could avoid having to start a second app and all location data would be processed centrally.
