No GPS on iPad

Hello,

I have a question about VFRnav. Everything works on my iPhone and the position tracking is very good and accurate. On my iPad I have exactly the same settings everywhere, but in flight the position display simply does not work.

Do you know what could be causing this?

Kind regards,
Alex

Hello Alex,

Thank you for your message!

The behaviour you described is because your iPad presumably does not have a built-in GPS module. Only iPads with an integrated cellular module (labelled Wi-Fi + Cellular)

  • i.e. with a SIM card slot - have genuine GPS (there does not have to be a SIM card inserted). The Wi-Fi-only models, on the other hand, can only determine their location via Wi-Fi networks – which of course does not work in flight, as there is no Wi-Fi connection. These “Wi-Fi-only” models are therefore unsuitable for navigation.

If you have any further questions, we will be happy to help!

Kind regards
Hermann

Hello Hermann,

Thank you for your reply. At first I couldn’t believe what you wrote, but it’s true: the iPad (Wi-Fi-only version) has no GPS!
I’ll stick with the iPhone

Best regards,
Alex
