Licensing questions and ideas

My trial is expiring soon and I am somewhat torn whether to get a license. I have some questions:

  1. Are there discounts on follow-up licenses?
  2. Once the license runs out after 12 months, can the app still be used at all? What features won’t receive updates: maps, NOTAMs, the app itself?
  3. Any chance for considering a limited edition for simming, mainly with real-world devices disabled?
  4. Can the license be shared between an Android phone and iPad if buying on the website?

I do understand that the price is moderate for real-world flying, but for just flight simming I - and probably others - need to justify the additional price with an existing Navigraph subscription and free tools like Little Navmap available. Major advantages of VFRnav are its fast rendering, clear VFR maps and airspace visualization.

Not sure about the size of the market (VFR, EU, simming), but might be a business case to open up a bit in that direction to gain a wider audience. Personally, at 20-25 €/year I would get a (sim-only) license without thinking much about it. For a somewhat higher price (<<100 €) I might consider a life-time sim license, too.

Hi @bspline,

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and your candid thoughts – I completely understand your point.

We try to make VFRnav as affordable as possible so that it remains fair for everyone. However, any further differentiation (e.g. simulator edition vs. real-world flying) would not only involve considerable administrative effort but also require technical implementation. A clean separation between ‘simulator only’ and real position or traffic data is particularly challenging and could easily open the door to misuse.

Therefore, we are currently focusing on maintaining and continuously developing a stable, unified solution.

Your input is still extremely valuable because it shows how the app is perceived beyond its traditional use case. We will definitely take this on board – who knows what the future holds.

Best regards,
Hermann

Hi,

thanks. I understand, it’s just an idea. Personally, I’ll see how often I use it in practice and then weigh it up.
