Persistence of NOTAMs and weather

If you restart the app without an Internet connection, previously loaded NOTAMs and weather data are no longer displayed. Could you perhaps persist the most recently loaded data so that after a restart without a network connection the previously loaded data are shown? Possibly with a warning if the data are already out of date?

The flight planning data also seem to have been persisted for some time now (thanks for that!), so you don’t have to reload them after restarting.

   Hallo Nachtfalke

I would personally not like that at all!!!

Presenting outdated data is not a good solution. Better to have no data at all.

Weather, NOTAMs are safety-relevant information that must be up to date!

If there is no Internet, the aforementioned info is not available. That avoids the notice that there is no Internet.

…otherwise this could lead to fatal situations, which we do not want.

But thank you very much for your contribution:slightly_smiling_face:

Pilot greetings, Karsten

Well, if I keep the app running and lose the network connection in the meantime (e.g. because I still had Wi‑Fi in the briefing room), the information is still retained and will eventually become outdated.

…well, as always in life you can view things this way …or …that way. The difference to the example you mentioned would be: …in the case of possibly outdated data it would not be VFRnav’s “fault”.

I know some “colleagues” …and how they fly around. …Then it’s very quickly “…but VFRnav showed it that way”.

→ such feedback to VFRnav must be avoided.

For example, on my last flight to the Baltic Sea, a NOTAM came in during the flight that wasn’t at the airfield before departure. There is currently a very high level of dynamism here.

But many thanks for the discussion :+1:

Clear skies,

Karsten

Yes, I’m with you on that. But particularly to prevent such feedback loops, an indication that the data are no longer current would be helpful. After all, we’ve just established that even with the current functionality it can still result in outdated data being displayed.

…yes, that is indeed a good point regarding possibly “outdated data”. What’s important is a well-conducted discussion with arguments like those here. Ultimately @Hermann will make the decision regarding implementation.
Many thanks.

Karsten
