I’ve been using VFRnav for years and I’m very happy with it.
Recently I saw a Stratux live for the first time at a pilot friend’s place. I liked it very much and I now feel confident I can assemble it myself.
Does anyone have experience connecting it to VFRnav? Is Stratux even supported?
Perhaps someone also has experience assembling one and knows which config and instructions are best. By now there are quite a few websites on the Internet covering the topic, and it can be hard to keep track
nice that you have also been very satisfied with VFRnav for a long time
I develop my own Stratux systems in various configurations which are based on the Stratux EU base image.
Configuration variants:
with T-Beam (transmitter module)
with/without OLED display
with/without baro sensor
with/without backup battery
…
Stratux:
with/without gyro sensor baro sensor
with/without fan control governed by temperature sensors
…
On the subject: Yes! Stratux and VFRnav “harmonise” excellently according to my tests!
Hermann has truly implemented the integration of Stratux systems in an absolutely exemplary way. (as well as with no other nav app)
I’m attaching a doc (which is unfortunately a bit old, but may be informative for you).
…oh, pdf unfortunately doesn’t work here Doku Stratux 2023
Thanks a lot. That already helps! Karsten, thanks for the documentation too! It gave me a very good overview.
I’ve now spent two days reading up a lot. It’s amazing what’s possible. I’ll start “small” for now. Some ADS-B and Flarm traffic at low altitude to begin with… Let’s see how I can pick that up with the paramotor
We can gladly talk on the phone about the details; that saves a lot of writing. Send me a PIN.
I still recommend the Pi 3 series up to B+, because of lower power consumption and more than enough performance for Stratux. → It has to be a Pi because of the Stratux program code.
I always order individual parts.
Basically you need to know in advance what you want regarding Stratux. The devices differ a lot here, also in the final price.
which functions/chipsets do I need? (pressure/temperature sensor, 3D attitude/gyro sensor?…
Do I only want to receive or also transmit?
If transmitting, which variant?
Own aircraft? Or charter? → for that I would build different variants.
Permanently installed variant in your own aircraft
Transportable variant for charter
It may all sound complicated, but for standard variants it isn’t! Don’t worry. Only if you add a few special features do you need expertise.
